The United States is a diverse country when it comes to wedding ceremonies since a lot of culture has influenced the people throughout time. A typical wedding in the United States doesn’t follow a certain type of etiquette since traditional wedding in the United States has been varied through time. It is believe that there is a lot of room to sway when it comes to wedding in the United States since they basically allow any form of tradition or ceremony that a couple may want to have.

Wedding in the United States will either be religious or civil – arranged marriage are not common anymore in the United States although there were times that it was practiced earlier but today that is rarely a case. Two people can choose who they want to marry without any restriction or memorandum imparted by the family like in some countries abroad. Wedding in the US are purely based on love but that doesn’t mean there are no exception to the “rule”. Although there are some families that still arrange marriages to strengthen an element in their life, it is not imposed heavily.

The planning of the wedding itself is elaborate. The couples are given the privileged to plan their wedding with whatever preference they want. Weddings can be held anywhere and it can either be performed in a church, city hall (civil weddings), or any building constructions that can cater to such event.  The setting of the wedding is not mandatory and nothing is imposed with the couple.

A traditional wedding comprises of the bride and groom, maid of honor, best man, flower girl and the ring bearer in addition to the family member that will walk the bride down the aisle. Brides are also given the freedom to choose her wedding dress – whether it maybe a designer wedding dress or a cheap wedding dress. Grooms are known to fancy a suite, a tuxedo or a coat and tie.

The ceremony is conducted by a religious leader. The ceremony itself has different parts but is often ended with the reading of the vow and the kissing of the bride. Then after the ceremony, the party is ushered to where the reception is held. Receptions are a gathering or a form of party to celebrate the union of the couple. It is often held with music, food and various forms of entertainment. Usually a bride changes from their cheap wedding dress to a lighter gown but that is not often the case.

Gifts are important to US weddings since it is believed that these gifts will help the couple when they are establishing their new life together. After the reception, the couple will be carried away to elope and continue the celebration with a honeymoon.
